Capoeira

A GAME. AN ART. A CULTURE.

There is the movement you can see. And everything happening around it: a rhythm, voices, a dialogue, a history.

A dialogue of movements between two capoeiristas, in a circle of musicians and practitionersIn the roda, you never play alone.

WELCOME TO THE CIRCLE

THE BODY SPEAKS.
THE GROUP ANSWERS.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian practice that combines a fighting game, dance, music and physical expression. Two people exchange movements in a roda, the circle formed by the other participants.

You learn to observe, evade and find your distance and rhythm. It is not just about getting a move right: it is about responding to the other person, surprising them and creating something together.

Around the players, instruments, songs and clapping hands give the game its energy. Everyone can take part in the roda, through movement or music.

01

MOVEMENT

The ginga, footwork, evasions and acrobatics form a language learnt step by step.

02

THE MUSIC

The berimbau leads the game, accompanied by percussion. The soloist’s song is answered by the group.

CULTURE IS SOMETHING WE LIVE

BEYOND
THE RODA.

Within the group, learning extends to instruments, songs and traditional dances associated with capoeira: maculelê, puxada de rede and samba.

These practices enrich our gatherings and events. They offer everyone another way to take part in Brazilian culture.
